Simon blends his love of folk, country, rock and blues to create beautiful songs that work equally well solo or with his full band ‘The Deep River Pilots

West on Colfax

Returning from the packed out Concert for Ukraine in July, West on Colfax write sunshine Americana/melancholic pop songs. Uplifting but road worn tales of the usual; love, doomed love, lessons learnt. Now a 6-piece outfit with lots of harmonies, the band have started attracting interest nationwide.

West on Colfax have been putting on Americana nights here at The Conti since 2017 and have always brought quality bands and singer songwriters for a minimal price - this night has that quality hallmark stamped all over it

Debut LP Barfly Flew By got worldwide airplay and critical praise “An impressive mix of melancholic realism and sullen heartache, classic ingredients for any noteworthy roots enthusiast, it’s also an album that will appeal to those who like their Americana served up thoughtfully, honestly, and with more than a dash of grit.” Americana-UK

(sadly The Good Intentions are no longer able to make it, but instead we have…)

Ian Bailey

Lancashire-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Ian Bailey first attracted attention in the Lancashire band MellowDrive, which formed in 1999 and included Bailey on vocals, his brother Phil Bailey on drums, Jim Mumford on bass, and Andy Bagwell. The group recorded a low-tech DIY album and also tracked at Gary Hall's Voodoo Rooms studio in Preston, where Bailey returned when he began work on a solo project. The resulting album, co-produced by Bailey and Hall and simply entitled Bailey, was released in 2005 on the newly created Northern Sun Records label, and garnered critical acclaim for its lush feel and tone.

2012 was the year that Ian Bailey finally decided to put some time aside to leave the studio — where he has spent a decade helping and producing a variety of singer — songwriters, and to take to the road with Tim Chu as one half of ‘A Celebration of Simon & Garfunkel‘

The songs of Simon & Garfunkel have always been a major influence on Ian’s own songwriting, he fondly remembers late nights listening to his father’s transistor radio tuned into Radio Luxembourg and hearing ‘America’ for the first time. “It was everything I loved about songwriting — where the melody and words effortlessly combine and produce real magic” he would say later. “Having the opportunity to sing and play the music of the iconic duo is a wonderful experience, whether it’s taking people back down memory lane or introducing a younger generation to the music of Simon & Garfunkel, performing and celebrating their songs is simply a joy!” Ian has written and produced three solo albums and is currently writing material for a fourth.
