A West African fusion of musicians bring their unique sound and brand of Afrobeat music to Preston!
ALAFIA is a band of four musicians from Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Ghana respectively, who play original music in the style of Afrofunk, Palmwine and Highlife.
The various band members worked together on various projects in London before band leader and composer, Sam Mailtland, aka Papa Sam Alafia, formed Alafia back in the early 1990s. The band toured the world including Japan and the USA and was well respected by the press and music industry alike before Papa Sam moved to Manchester and the band took a temporary break.
Now the band has reformed with original members Sierra Leonian Papa Sam Alafia on vocals guitar and percussion, Victor Mensah from the Ivory Coast on keyboards and Cameroonian bass-player Sam Djengue. They are now joined by Ghanaian, Kofi Adu on kit. The new Alafia played its maiden gig with the new line-up at the Hootnanny in Brixton in August 2018
