Whats On

Cold Bath Street / Some Some Unicorn / Jigsaw 5050

Friday, 8 June 2018 - 7:30pm

Preston Jazz and Improvisation Festival presents a mind-blowing bill of improv from some of the Northwest's best.

Cold Bath Street - present the finale of the 'Dream of Space' concerts which have promoted their Sound Research Rebellion album and seen them working alongside staff of Alston Observatory and visual artist Anne Fox to create something really special. Compared to Bowie, Floyd, Can, Gong & Jethro Tull.

"A unique and very special opportunity and experience" Tim Saunders

Some Some Unicorn - Since the debut album SSU has evolved into a remarkable live experience. Live the outfit is between 8 and 14 strong and is always different, drawn from many genres but with a focus in free improv, jazz and ambient drone. Touching points for the SSU sound are Alex Cline Ensemble, Talk Talk, Spontaneous Music Ensemble and The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble.

"Modern, beautiful, jazzy, difficult, free; it’s pretty hard to pin down exactly what Some Some Unicorn are. All I know is, I love what they do" The Sampler

Jigsaw 5050 - Lead by Phil Morton of the Improvisers Network. Known and labeled as a hardcore free improviser. Morton has been active in the Northern circuit of free improvisation activities since 1997. During this time he has constantly pushed at the limits and restrictions of being `free` and pleasured in the infinite responses created and driven by restrictions. Taking over ten years to evolve, his `System 5050`is played tonight by the members of the Preston-based Jigsaw group.

£3 entry on the door.
